Celebration of a Life Well Lived

This site is a tribute to Yu Yuh Wong, who was born in Singapore on November 9, 1966. A loving wife, caring aunt, kind sister, filial daughter, thoughtful friend, and passionate educator, she is much loved and will always be remembered.

Yu Yuh attended St. Nicholas Girls' and Hwa Chong Junior College and went on to earn her Bachelor's in Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. She loved the arts and enjoyed singing and cultural dance; our home was often enlivened by her piano music.

Yu Yuh joined teaching after her graduation and had a rich and fulfilling career in education. She eventually served as vice-principal of Pioneer Junior College, principal of MacPherson Secondary School, and principal of New Town Secondary School.

Yu Yuh met Kenneth as colleagues and after their marriage, they moved to Canada. In 2022, she earned her Master of Education from Thomson River University. She also studied Career Education at the University of Calgary.

Yu Yuh passed away on April 5, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was brave and cheerful to the end.

Sincerely from Yu Yuh's family, we'd like to extend our deepest gratitude for all of your support, love, and kindness during this difficult time. We're blessed to be able to see all of these memories that everyone is sharing.

Thoughts

Hi Ms Wong, the day you left, was also a day I was looking at a map of walking trails in Australia and thinking to send that to you for your husband. I wouldn't be here now without your understanding and kindness. Crazy thought but I've decided to grow my hair out and donate it to the children's cancer foundation here to turn it into a wig to give some comfort for those still fighting. May your kindness always live on in the rest of us.

Dear Ms Wong, Thank you for coming into my life, thank you for your dedication as an educator. You've touched the lives of many students and many other educators as well, you've improved so many lives! We both arrived at NTSS at the same time; it was your first year as principal and my first year as a student in NTSS. I am shocked and saddened by your passing... as I'm sure everyone's hearts were filled with sorrow as well. I can't imagine the pain you must have been in from the first diagnosis to your final moments... You fought with such dignity and grace. As we say goodbye, I find solace in believing that you are now in a better place, free from pain and suffering. Rest in peace, Ms Wong. You will be missed dearly by all of us.

Even in a picture with multiple people, you can pick out Yu Yuh - she had such a beautiful smile that reached all the way to her eyes…. such a quiet, kind soul she will be deeply missed by those who loved her dearly…
